Silvertip Films founder and Co-Director Geoff Cockwill developed his passion for films and filmmaking due to a childhood incident with a time traveling cyborg and later in life went on to study at the renowned Surrey Institute of Art and Design, graduating their Film and Video degree in 2003 with Honours. He has experience in many areas of filmmaking and editing, accumulated from his work at uni, his short film experience and professional work and has directed, produced and edited a combination of over 25 short films, music videos and corporate promos.
In the last year, he has Produced, Directed, Written, Edited and shot an increasing number of music videos and live concerts and corporate videos. Most recently he Directed broadcast videos Joystick by TWM as well as Its Not My Fault by Phubus alongside live videos for The Myst at Guilfest and Orange Street at Gosport Festival. His video for Slashed Seat Affair aired on CMTV cable station in Canada and across the UK instore at TopShop and Toni & Guy branches.
Geoff continues to make short films, with his recent Attack of the Lobstermen from Mars being a favourite amongst fans of 1940s sci-fi and his Veronica V. a mockumentary about a woman with a dark secret - being nominated for Best Comedy at the BBC Big Screen Film Festival in 2006.
Geoff has Directed many of the projects Silvertip Films have been hired to produce including music videos for Kody, White Sunday, Jon Scott and Adora as well as live multi-camera shoots for Vanity Fare, Draven, The Myst and White Sunday again. Corporate videos include the music video influenced promo for Grand Prix Legends and the instructional driving video for E.D.S Driving School.
Previous freelance work includes various adverts including shoots for Tiger Woods Golf 2006, Kerrang!, PopTarts and Samsung through EMAP, all of which aired on satellite music channels and terrestrial channels. He also worked on corporate videos for a Forestry service and Surrey County Council. Other freelance work included lengthy stints at various production houses where he assisted on projects from infomercials to premiere events to TV shows. He has also spent time at Sky Sports, London Tonight, Banana Split Prods and Two Hand Productions.
Geoff is adept at using Adobe Premiere Pro for editing and PhotoshopCS for image work and Encore for DVD creation as well as various MS Office programs. Trained in Final Cut Pro as well. He has experience with various cameras including Sony, JVC and Canon but currently operates a Sony HDV Z1E camera.
Geoffs influences come from many different sources - from mainstream cinema (Cameron, The Wachowskis, Burton, Bay) to various television shows (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Veronica Mars, Doctor Who) and music videos through to video games and comics all with a love of modern music running through everything.
His plans for the future involve furthering his Directing work and pushing his skills as an editor and cameraman. His goals for Silvertip Films is more more music, more films, more promos, more documentaries, more photography more everything!
