Talitha Giusti "Perfectly Broken" Video Shoot

For Talitha Giusti's new music video, she and her record label were looking for a performance video with a very simple narrative to it, which relied more on visual interest and energy than storytelling to get the viewers attention.

Talitha was looking for a location which fitted the idea of the songs lyrics of being perfectly broken and reflected the notion of a paradox, which is present on her forthcoming album. We found a disused brickworks building which is now run as a brick storage site and were granted full access by the owners - Cranleigh Brick and Distribution. The location featured a large industrial building which has grafitti on the walls, a collapsing roof, rusted and dilapidated machines and a whole host of interesting areas to shoot in.

Talitha was dressed in a slinky evening gown, again a contrast to the decay around her, which, along with her hair and make up, would become more and more broken as the video progresses.

"Perfectly Broken" is a rock tinged song which builds in intensity toward the end of the song and so the video and edit needed to reflct this.

We shot a number of set ups across the day, beginning with smooth tracking shots courtesy of the Glidetrack and making full use of our range of lenses to get depth to the shots as well as some really tight shots on Talithas face as she sung. The middle set of locations featured Talitha in a slightly more broken state and then the ending sections featured her with her hair in a mess, make up smeared and dress ripped, the camerawork here was frantic, jumpy and full of focus pulls to match with the feel of the song as this point.

The edit becomes faster toward the end of the song and features a number of effects like judders, shakes, blurs and random frame appearances to match the progress of Talitha and her appearance in the video.

The narrative features something watching and following Talitha which is partly based on the song lyrics, and as she becomes more concerned about this entity, she eventually decides to join it at its own game, her personality changing alongside her look as she goes after the thing following her.

The video was commissioned by Halo Records UK and is currently enjoying broadcast on UK tv channels.
