Jay Makwana - "No Sunshine"
The debut video for Jay Makwana needed to capture the singer / songwriters strong performance (honed by his other performance work as a Michael Jackson impersonator) and feature a narrative based around the lyrics of the song.
The studio performance part of the video was designed to be clean and simple looking, to shift the focus onto Jay. The addition of three lights in shot, complete with lens flare and post-production streak enhancement, give the impression of three suns behind him whilst the light streaks change colour throughout the song. Tracking and close up camera work coupled with Jays strong movements create a visually interesting performance section.
We also shot Jay dancing against a white wall and silhouetted him against it to make his MJ inspired moves stand out and to also create a direct contrast to the darker look of the other performance shots.
The narrative was shot cinematically to create interesting shots and angles and tells the story of a man and his ex-girlfriend who cheated on him but now wont leave him alone. It was shot in and around London.
Additional grading work was carried out to enhance the warm nature of the happy flashback shots and the cooler feel of the angrier flashback shots.
